Diploma examination procedure

 

 

  1. The purpose and subject of the procedure

 

The procedure aims to determine preparation and submit of diploma thesis and organisation of diploma examination. Topic of the procedure is description of process graduation for students of I cycle studies and II cycle studies, uniform master's degree on which require id diploma thesis.

 

  1. Scope of application of the procedure

 

The procedure includes all students Faculty of Law and persons conducting diploma seminars and reviewers on fields of studies where diploma thesis is necessary.

 

  1. Definition

 

3.1. Diploma Thesis – a bachelor's or master's thesis. A thesis is an independent study of a scientific or practical issue, presenting the student's general knowledge and skills related to studies in a given field, level, and profile, as well as the student's ability to independently analyse and create conclusions.

3.2. Supervisor – an academic teacher supervising the thesis, holding at least a doctoral degree.

3.3. Reviewer – an academic teacher with at least a doctoral degree who reviews the    thesis.

3.4. Review – a standardized thesis evaluation sheet, on which the supervisor or reviewer prepares a review of the thesis after logging in to the Virtual Dean's Office.

3.5. Order of the Rector of the UAFM – Order of the Rector of the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski University in Krakow No. ZR/01/05/2026 of 6th May 2026.

 

  1. Responsibility

 4.1 The Dean of the Faculty indicate from among the members of the Faculty Commission for the Quality of Education, which prepare once a year report with arrangements related to method of implementation Procedure by persons which include

 4.2 Report should include especially verification of cohesion between topics of diploma thesis and results of education, verification of relation between topics of diploma thesis and areas of science research of supervisors, and verification if diploma topics do not repeat

 

 

  1. Procedure of action

 

5.1 Dean together with Head of Programme prepare list of Supervisors for each field of study and study degree in given academic year. Supervisors show areas of topics for diploma seminar and additional requirements for seminar members.  Head of Programme by use of Student Service Office announced enrolment for diploma seminars. Students sign up for the list of seminars groups by way of recommending by Supervisor.

 

5.2 Substantive and formal preparation rules diploma thesis and conditions for passing of seminar include in Subject Card – Undergraduate thesis seminar

 

5.3. The number of participants in the thesis seminar is determined by the University’s current internal regulations.

 

 

5.4. Thesis advisors determine the topics of thesis projects together with the seminar participants and notify the dean of these topics by the end of the first semester of the thesis seminar.

 

 

5.5. The topics of thesis projects are subject to review in the report described in section 4.2 Procedure.

  

5.6. A thesis in an English-language program may be written exclusively in

English.

  

5.7. At the student’s request, with the dean’s approval granted in consultation with the thesis Supervisor, the thesis may be written in a foreign language, provided that the University’s staff resources permit it and the student possesses sufficient proficiency in the foreign language in which he or she intends to write the thesis.

 

 

5.8. A change of Supervisor may be made for organizational reasons or upon a justified request by the student, by decision of the Dean after obtaining the consent of the current Supervisor and the new Supervisor.

 

5.9. The dissertation must include an abstract and 4–6 keywords in Polish and English. The text, including the abstract, must not exceed 1,000 characters (including spaces).

 

5.10. The student shall submit the completed thesis, together with the title page and abstract in accordance with Appendices 1 and 2, to their Supervisor for final approval and verification by the Unified Anti-Plagiarism System (colloquially called JSA), in electronic form as a single PDF file in accordance with the system’s requirements.

 

5.11. The thesis is checked in the Unified Anti-Plagiarism System (JSA). Once the anti-plagiarism procedure has been carried out and concluded with a positive result, the supervisor accepts the thesis and forwards it to the next stage of the thesis procedure.

 

5.12. The supervisor accepts the submitted thesis by entering a grade for the course ‘undergraduate thesis seminar’ in the protocol within the University’s electronical system and signing the declaration of admission to the defence (Appendix 3) and forwarding it to the Student Services Office for the purpose of arranging the thesis examination.

 

5.13. Supervisor and the Reviewer are required to prepare and make available on the Virtual Dean’s Office their reviews of the dissertation no later than one week before the scheduled date of the dissertation examination.

 

5.14. The date of the final examination is set by the Dean in consultation with the faculty coordinator at the Student Services Office.

 

5.15. The rules related to the submission of the thesis, including the declarations required from the student, deadlines, conditions for admission and the scheduling of the thesis examination, as well as the procedure for appointing members of the examination commission and their duties, together with the assessment criteria specific in the Study Regulations and the Rector’s Order of the UAFM.

 

5.16. During the diploma examination, which is conducted orally in the language in which the thesis was written, the student obtains three questions: one relating to the subject matter of the thesis and two testing learning outcomes within the scope of the study programme. The list of topics for a given degree programme, falling within the scope of the diploma examination, is determined by the Dean in consultation with the programme directors and communicated to students no later than the start of the one before last semester specified in the study programme (the list of topics for individual degree programmes is set out in Appendices 4–8).

 

5.17. Following the diploma examination, the diploma thesis is submitted in PDF format to the National Repository of Written Diploma Theses (ORPPD).
